It seems I'm much more tolerant of different cultures than most players here...I don't really care what the Kurzicks and Luxons wear, do with their hair, or put on their face.
If Factions retains the FPE's armor skin system, I'd have to go with Kurzicks while shopping because I like most of their armor skins more than the Luxon counterparts. And no, I don't care if something is popular so long as I think it looks good--did I stop wearing 15k Glads just because it's popular? Nope!
Henchmen-wise, I like the Luxon set more. On the Kurzick side, Gai-sensei, Danika, and the other monk did a fine job healing, but Luxons have Kai Ying the handy Earth ward-bishie who keeps squishies alive, Talon Silverwing the squawkin' Tengu warrior, and Daeman, a better interrupter than Eyrs Vasburg. That and the Kurzicks use Rot Wallows...boo!
During FPE, PvP-wise, it was very Luxon-heavy early on, but Kurzicks ended up winning much more. I'm probably going to choose Luxons just because I like Siege Turtles more~
Also, the wide-open Luxon Jade Sea (at least the limited range we had access to) was very relaxing to navigate through and permitted mob-dodging (although the scenary gets boring very fast) whereas the Kurzick forest environment, while EXTREMELY beautiful with superb background music and great atmosphere, had very crowded mobs that reminded me of SF, an overabundance of ranger enemies who spam Spike Traps all over the place, and frequent ambushes--all of which forced me to crush every group I encounter.
So yah, aesthetically, I'd side with the Kurzicks, but practically I'd side with the Luxons. I don't dislike or like one side more than the other, and I don't really care about their ideologies or attitudes, so I choose the side with less-annoying PvE environment. Go turtles!
As a note, I feel that the always-balanced Kurzick strike forces (when I was Luxon) were a better challenge than the specialized Luxon strike forces (when I was Kurzick)...doesn't this somewhat go against the stereotype?

as to what i thought when i first saw each sides areas...
well the Kurzics are all ether dead Brunen ge (its the tight uniforms and the dark colors...it makes me want to stand in the middle of the main town and start singing the brunni battle song ^^ heeh)
or they are wannabee Centari....i swear one of the males had Londo Molari's hair 0.o..espacially since the women wear those ballgowns....oooh, its unfair, i want one for my main character! grr....
wen i first got to the seaside of the jade sea, i looked around, trying not to get under the flippers of the turtles...
oh, Sir Jecht, what are you doing here..and there..and out in that outpost?
whoa....Luxons are all lost Spiran fishermen..same clothes, same style, same daddy of Tidus bloke..i mean, how many of him are there? O0?

Everything balances out as far as PvP "dominance" goes sooner than later.
Everyone who has been PvPing in MMOs long enough knows that.
One side getting population-heavy usually means a bunch of good PvP guilds get bored or sick with the situation and switch sides. Allways happens.
For PvPers enjoyment matter. Enjoyment comes from the scale and caliber of opposition. If they don't find it, they reorient themselves in a way that they do or they move on to other games.

Yup, @Terminal correct. Good thing with GW:F is that we are not forever locked-out to one faction.
Unlike in WoW, we're forever locked-out to a faction thus the player distribution is always a problem there, hence they will release a "cute" race to the Horde side to (quoted) "balance the distribution, because there are many alliance players because the alliance races are cute, the horde are ugly". (unquote)

While the Luxons are attractive because they look like hypocritical Tua'athan, most I've talked to have said Kurzicks for varying reasons.

Well my guild broke up recently do to issues. One of those issues was 1/3 of the clan wanted kurzick, 1/3 wanted Luxon 1/3 were completely uninformed about waht they kurzick and luxon were x.x. I ended up burying my guild as my leader left. Never the less, KURZICK FTW. Ill kill all your snails >

Our guild chose Kurzicks, mainly because it was the underdogs. And people on the kurzick side were more into the pvp thing. If anyone hadn't noticed, Kurzicks ran more EoE then Luxons, luxons were more of a "I'll make minions and kill those noob kurz!" And the many insults that came with both sides. As the casual "Luxons Suxons" or the "Kunts Kurz." I always hated the Luxons right at the start. :P Don't as me why. xD I also felt sympathy on the turtles. :l Luxons live on turtles!! Dx Poor turtles. :l
One of the many other things our guild likes about the kurz is the gothic theme. gotta love that Punker Moa bird and Brutus the Vile Nec. :P Brutus saved us all from that dragon. xDD

If people do indeed become attached to a Faction... how hard will it be to switch and do the other side?

I'm not joining any of the sides. My role-playing character, who also happens to be my main, is a free spirit. He'll travel back and forth between the Luxons and the Kurzicks and get whatever they have to offer. The Luxons have Hooked Daggers; my main would very much like those. The Kurzicks have the awesome warrior armor skin; my main would very much like that too.
So he'll go both places.

My guild had a majority wins vote, and overwhelmingly decided to start as Kurzick. Key word here is start. Once we all have the Kurzick side of things pretty much square, we'll move over to Luxons. We have a lead on an alliance with another PvE guild and that may affect the decision somewhat. Eventually we're going to have to ally with a PvP guild just to learn the finer points of PvP (because our guild scrimmages currently look nothing like the matches we watch between other guilds... you guys are pretty damn impressive BTW). And that may affect the decision, but just for headcount... we're Kurzick for now.

From my experiences there are far less luxon. There are always hundreds of Kurzicks trying to do Alliance Battles, and never an opposing team.
